Another Inside Job Results In Theft of Personal Information
Another insider was unable to resist the temptation to take advantage of his access to reams of personal information and sold the information belonging to 2.3 million consumers to a data broker, who then sold it to marketing companies.
A senior database administrator a subsidiary of Fidelity National Information Services stands accused of swiping the information and selling it for an undisclosed amount.
Having worked in the computer industry for many years myself, I am aware of the fact that a senior database administrator is a pretty good-paying job. I suspect that is an indication that this particular individual was offered a significant amount of cash for the information in question.
The company where the database administrator worked, Certegy Check Services, is pursuing civil and criminal charges against the former employee.
Certegy is a company that runs a check authorization service and maintains bank account information for the purpose of offering a service to merchants which is used to accept checks as payment.
