Another Low-Tech Identity Theft Case

30 June, 2007 (16:19) | Identity Theft

Here’s another case of identity theft where the required information was obtained by the crook through more traditional means and had nothing to do with computers or the Internet.

A 47-year-old nurse in Charlottesville, Virginia was arrested and charged with stealing the identity of an elderly woman and then racking up $10,000 in debt buying jewelry, home appliances and CDs.

The nurse in question was providing home health care in her victim’s home and I suppose it is very easy to figure out how she could have gotten her hands on the personal information belonging to the person she is supposed to be caring for.

You would think that someone who is 47 years old and is obviously employed with what is probably a good and respectable job would no better than to pull off something like this. Do morons like this think that are not going to be caught? I hope they throw the book at her.
