Beware of E-Mail Greeting Cards

11 July, 2007 (20:00) | Spam

One clever method computer crooks use to infest your computer with damaging programs like spyware and “trojan horse” programs is to send out millions of e-mail greeting cards.

E-mail greeting cards became popular a while ago and there are a lot of legitimate web sites that you can use to compose a greeting card and have it e-mailed to a friend of loved one.

Here is how I handle the greeting cards that show up in my e-mail inbox: If they don’t list the name or e-mail address of someone I know, I delete them. Simple as that.

The web sites that these phony greeting cards are directing you to are quite likely to be engineered to exploit known weaknesses in your browser program in order to install harmful programs on your computer.

Some of them may also come with e-mail attachments that will infect your computer, so do NOT click on any of these attachments or try to access them in any way.
