Gov’t Study Shows Weakness In Laws Protecting SSN’s

8 July, 2007 (11:59) | General

A new study by the GAO, otherwise known as the Government Accounting Office, shows that there are serious weaknesses in the laws that govern the use of social security numbers by private agencies and organizations.

The laws currently on the books seem to be intended primarily to govern the way that social security numbers are used by state and federal agencies.

Just a few days ago I was talking here about how the restrictions on the use of social security numbers need to be increased. since the feds seem to fond of passing new laws for all of us to obey, it doesn’t seem like to much to ask for them to pass a new law or two that will help protect consumers from these companies that insist on using social security numbers as personal ID numbers.
