Louisiana Congressman Linked To Nigerian 419 Scams
Now who the heck do you believe in a story like this one? A corrupt Nigerian politician is blaming a corrupt U.S. Congressman for taking advantage of him by using him to perpetrate well-known 419 scams.
For those unfamiliar with Nigerian 419 scams, most of them involve e-mail messages from scam artists in Nigeria who usually claim to be some important wealthy person who needs to escape from their country and offers a generous reward to the person who can help them in their escape by depositing their vast fortune in a U.S. bank.
The Congressman in question, William Jefferson, Democrat from Louisiana, is in deep trouble as it is. He has been indicted on numerous crimes after investigators found $90,000 in his freezer which he claimed he needed to pay bribes to the Vice President of Nigeria.
It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. Word has it that Congressman Jefferson could be facing 235 years in prison. And people wonder why the words politician and criminal have just about become synonymous?
